Imants Tillers

Imants Tillers is one of Australia’s most distinguished and innovative contemporary artists. He was born in Sydney in 1950, after his parents emigrated from Latvia as refugees. His first solo exhibition was at Watters Gallery in 1973. He has represented Australia at international exhibitions, such as the São Paulo Bienal (1975), Documenta 7 (1982) and the Venice Biennale (1986), and has been the subject of many individual exhibitions nationally and internationally. In 2006, the National Gallery of Australia hosted a retrospective of his work, One world, many visions. In 2018 the Latvian National Museum of Art in Riga honoured Tillers with the major retrospective Journey to Nowhere. He is represented by Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery (Sydney), Arc One Gallery (Melbourne), Bett Gallery (Hobart), Greenaway Art Gallery (Adelaide), and Milani Gallery (Brisbane). Credo, a book of selected essays published over the course of his career, was released in 2022.
