Submissions

HEAT welcomes submissions of fiction, essays, interviews, hybrid forms and translated works. Please know, we do not publish reviews or opinion pieces, at least in the conventional sense. We are, however, interested in writing that engages with other writers and their works. We’re also intrigued by obsessions and curiosities, lost or secret histories, literary quests and writing that brings research to life. We encourage writing which gives full rein to the author’s voice, without the restriction of a word limit.

We are open for submissions throughout the year on a rolling basis, closing occasionally for short unscheduled periods of reading. There is no deadline – send it when it’s ready.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept material that has appeared elsewhere in the English language.

HEAT is currently closed to poetry submissions.

Write the Day
Inspired by a long passage in The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing, and by the great diarists of literature, Write the Day invites writers to document a single day in their lives, from waking to sleeping, capturing as faithfully as possible all that passes through their minds and senses. If you would like to submit your own Write the Day for consideration, please select this category on the form under ‘genre’. The piece can be as long or as short as you like, and if accepted will be published on the HEAT website and sent out in our newsletter.
