Ali Alizadeh writes about history, memory, revolutions and love. He grew up during a war in the Middle East and migrated to Australia as a teenager. He dropped out of a Civil Engineering degree to become an artist. He received a PhD for writing an epic poem about Joan of Arc. He has busked poetry in Melbourne and judged a student debate on Chinese television. He has written novels, plays, collections of poetry and scholarship. His books include Transactions (2013), Ashes in the Air (2011), Iran: My Grandfather (2010) and The New Angel (2008). He lectures at Monash University.
